Expert Opinion

In the press...

Of the 2011 vintage, Victoria Moore said: “The brand that used to be called Montana and is now renamed Brancott Estate is always solidly good value when on promotion. A vital sauvignon blanc, clean and strong like a tightly trained rowing eight, this smells good from the moment you spin off the screw-cap. Try it with a tomato salad.”

Victoria Moore - Daily Telegraph 07/04/2012

Of the 2011 vintage, Terry Kirby said: “Just because it is seemingly on offer almost everywhere should not negate the qualities of this fine Kiwi wine – characteristically intense gooseberry and lime flavours, great fresh acidity and an easy drinkability. One to stockpile for those Christmas parties.”

Terry Kirby - Independent on Sunday 18/11/2012

Background

History

Brancott Vineyard is our original Marlborough Vineyard and inspiration behind our name. With its special combination of soil, sun and climate, this is where we first pioneered our country’s most internationally-acclaimed varietal - Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Regional info

Marlborough has had another excellent growing season with dry conditions for most of the harvest. A warm November and December set up good flowering and fruit set, and until mid-February the season was tracking much earlier than the long term average. Although rain was experienced in late April, this had little effect on the vintage as most of the fruit had already been harvested.

One of New Zealand's best............

My husband and I are not normally white wine drinkers but when we visited New Zealand we both became hooked and now drink it back home as an aperitif. A wine to suit most tastes - good balance between dry and fruity.

A good example of a New Zealand Malborough that dosen''t cost the earth. Good nose and good taste. The only trouble is that when you open a bottle it is very difficult not to drink it all in one go.

Kiwi Sauv. B.

By Butleyboy

This review is for the 2012 vintage

The flavour is very intense and for the money (£5) is as good a bargain as you can get . I bought the max. and will enjoy it provided my daughter does not get there first! I drank it back to back with THE NED (ex waitrose/Majestic) The ned is slightly more complex but not as intense or gooseberryish. If you want a sweeter wine try that, otherwise if you want the authentic NZ S.B. experience go for the Brancott estate. (I did spend 7 weeks down there last year tasting so I think I know.....)

A light, refreshingly fruity sauvignon blanc from one of the world's best sources; ideal to accompany fish, salads or just to drink and pretend that summer has arrived.... got to have a few of these in the 'cellar'.

In my opinion if you are going to drink Sauvignon Blanc it has to be a New Zealand Sauvignon, preferrably Marlborough. Brancott Estate is up there with the more expensive bottles. Tastes even nicer when you get a special offer at Tesco. Have'nt ever seen it cheaper.

This Sauvignon Blanc is a super, fresh, zesty wine with no slightly bitter after taste that can come with some wines. Brancott Estate wines can be relied on to be good and with the excellent offer that went with this, it really hit the spot. No wonder it was restricted to 2 cases! I hope this offer pops up again.

As a fan of New Zealand wines this is a great example of a dry, fresh wine with it's own flavours from the Malbrough region. It is great with fish, chicken or summer salads, it can be used all year round and never fails to complement the food. We always keep a supply and keep enjoying every bottle, great buy.

My brother introduced me to this wine and paid £12.00 for a bottle. I was so impressed with the flavour I made a note of it and sourced it online for a fraction of the price. You will not be disappointed. It has fruit notes' a lovely bouquet and is very drinkable. The last point being the issue. You just have to buy at least a case!

This is a good Sauvignon Blanc. At first I thought it might be a bit sharp but now I would describe it as it as pleasantly crisp and dry with plenty of flavour. It is much nicer when not over chilled - it has much to recommend it. Serve it lavishly as an aperitif: you and those of your friends who like dry Sauvignon will really enjoy this one..

Before bringing the glass anywhere near my nose I could smell a bowl of fresh fruit salad, it could be the smelling salt of the wine world the aroma was that strong. When I brought the glass nearer it was like the bowl was sitting in a meadow just after heavy rain, It really did cry out fresh tropical fruit and that distinctive damp grassiness after a storm. Taste – If you feeling tired and in need of a lift this will certainly invigorate you, it is fresh tasting with a real kick of that lovely racy acidity. Again tropical flavours of peach and melon with a little tang of sharp grapefruit but there is still that grassy herbal attack hanging around in the background. think I paid around £6 in store for this bottle and it tasted like a more expensive bottle, at the price though it’s hard to beat. Definitely one of the flagship Sauvignon Blancs from the Marlborough region.
