For a quick and easy treat that's perfect for on-the-go, make a batch of these delicious nut-free snack bars. They’re chewy, crunchy and packed with dried fruit and crunchy oats.

Ingredients

  • 100g butter, plus extra for greasing
  • 3 tbsp golden syrup
  • 85g demerara sugar
  • ¼ tsp mixed spice
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 150g porridge oats
  • 75g dried cranberries

Method

  1. Heat the oven to gas 3, 160°C, fan 140°C.
  2. Grease an 18cm square baking tin well with the extra butter. Melt the butter, golden syrup and sugar in a pan over a low heat until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the spices, oats and cranberries and mix well.
  3. Spoon into the prepared tin and press down. Bake for 35 mins. Leave to cool for 5 mins, then cut into slices.
