Beef bulgogi is a classic Korean recipe; strips of steak are marinated in a soy, sesame, garlic and ginger sauce before being flash fried with carrots and spring onions. This speedy 15 minute meal is perfect for a midweek treat or as part of a bigger feast with friends at the weekend.

    Ingredients

    • 454g pack Tesco Finest sirloin steaks, cut into very thin slices
    • 1 large carrot, peeled and cut into slim batons
    • 1 bunch spring onions, trimmed, halved lengthways and cut into 5cm lengths
    • rice to serve

    For the marinade

    • 6 tbsp dark soy sauce
    • 1 tbsp sesame oil
    • 1 tbsp rice wine
    • 1 clove garlic, sliced
    • 2.5cm piece of fresh root ginger, peeled and finely grated
    • 2 tbsp soft brown sugar
    • 2 tsp sesame seeds

    Method

    1. Place all the marinade ingredients into a large bowl and mix together well until the sugar has dissolved. Add the steak and allow to marinade for 30 mins at room temperature.
    2. Add the spring onions and carrots and stir well. Place a griddle pan over a medium-high heat and allow to get really hot. Carefully spoon the meat and vegetables onto the griddle pan (in two batches if necessary) and cook for 3-4 mins over a high heat, turning occasionally until cooked and lightly charred in places. Pour over the remaining marinade for the final min of cooking. Serve with rice
