Method

  1. Sift the flour into a large bowl, add the baking powder, salt and sugar. Mix to combine. Beat in the eggs, melted butter and milk until smooth then transfer to a jug so it is easy to pour.
  2. Heat a large non stick pan over a low heat. Lightly brush with sunflower oil and pour an oval shape of mixture for the head about 15cm x 10cm. Cook for about 30 seconds – the top of the pancake will bubble slightly then turn it over and cook for a further 15-20 seconds. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. For the hair, pour a round of batter measuring about 10cm into the pan. Whilst the batter is cooking shape it into 3 small triangles. Cook the triangles for about 30 seconds, then turn and cook for a further 15-20 seconds. Then make two small rounds for ears about 5cm wide, cook for 15-30 seconds, turn and cook for a further 15 seconds. Spoon a little of the mixture into a separate bowl and add enough blue food colouring to give a vibrant blue. Pour out an oval shape for the mask into the pan about 12cm x 4cm. Cook for about 20 seconds, then turn and cook for a further 15 seconds. Set aside with the other cooked pancake pieces. Repeat this process three times to make more super hero face pancakes.
  4. Place the oval face on a large plate, trim one end to give a strong jaw. Tuck the two rounds ears under the face slightly. Cut the round pancake for the hair into three triangles, and then spread with chocolate spread. Trim the blue oval to the width of the face then trim to make an eye mask.
  5. Using the writing icing to draw eyes, a nose and a mouth.
  • Tip: Make sure your pancake batter isn't to thick and cook them very gently over a low steady heat because you want them cooked but not coloured so you can decorated them as faces.
