Cinder toffee and chocolate popcorn

The best sofa snack – curl up with a bowl brimming with cinder toffee and chocolate popcorn. This easy snack recipe adds extra delicious flavour to classic popcorn and takes just 20 mins.

Ingredients

  • 25g popcorn kernels
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil
  • 50g salted butter
  • 125g caster sugar
  • 5 tbsp golden syrup
  • 50g milk chocolate buttons

Method

  1. Put the popcorn kernels in a large pan with the vegetable oil and cover with a tight-fitting lid. Set over a low heat, and shake occasionally. Once the kernels start to pop, continue to heat for 3-4 mins, or until the popping stops. Remove from the heat and pour into a large bowl, discarding any unpopped kernels.
  2. Line a large tray with nonstick baking paper. Put the salted butter, caster sugar and golden syrup in a pan over a low heat. Heat, stirring, until the sugar has dissolved and the butter has melted. Increase the heat and boil, without stirring, for 5 mins or until the mix has turned an amber, cinder toffee colour.
  3. Pour the sauce over the popcorn and quickly stir to coat. Tip the popcorn onto the tray and leave to set. Break into pieces, mix with the milk chocolate buttons and enjoy.
