Helen McGinn - Femail, Daily Mail 14/03/2013
Of the 2009 vintage, Helen McGinn said: “A not so classic, but very smooth, Italian red that’s super at the price. Made from a blend of Sangiovese with a bit of Cabernet sauvignon and Merlot. Really lovely.”
Susy Atkins - BBC Saturday Kitchen 19/04/2014
Of the 2009 vintage, Susy Atkins said: “If you’re looking for a medium bodied fine, yet easy drinking red, not too heavy, not too jammy, then my tip is to head for Central Italy’s Tuscany region for a well-balanced red, just like this one. It’s got quite a spicy nose to it, there’s some blackcurrant and wild strawberries in there. There’s a somewhat nutty, aged quality to this wine, which words well with the savoury elements of Theo Randall’s dish. But it’s really soft and smooth with some lovely red fruit here, and that’s going to compliment the sweetness of the shoulder of lamb and it won’t do battle with the purple sprouting broccoli.”
"Super Tuscan" is a generic term used to refer to great wines of Tuscany, labeled under the term "IGT" (Indicazione Geografica Tipica). Prestigious wine producers in Tuscany, confident in their winemaking know-how, decided to break the quality seal (DOC/ DOCG) and make the wines they believed in, using innovative grape blends. Wine lovers, journalists and the international wine trade now praise the quality of these wines. Thus, emerged one of the most renowned and sought after denominations in wine histo
Renaissance wine-makers begun making wine in Tuscany over 600 years ago. The rolling hills of Tuscany are the ideal location for growing grapes and the region is world famous for producing premium quality red wines such as the famous Chianti. This Super Tuscan is part of a modern, new-wave group of wine-makers who create wines that lie outside of the DOC classification because they include international grape varietite such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
