Product Details

Tasting Notes

Composed of 46 percent Cabernet and 44 percent Merlot, with the remainder of the blend made with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

The high proportion of Merlot gives this wine a richness and juiciness which is immediately appealing.

Behind the fruit is a layer of supple tannins which give the wine a long finish.

Expert Opinion

What our expert says

17/20 Jancis Robinson

In the press...

The finest Beychevelle since the 2003 and probably since the 1982, Beychevelle’s 2009 is opaque purple in color, with a beautiful, floral nose intermixed with black currant fruit, licorice, cedar wood and Christmas fruitcake. Full-bodied yet still elegant and pure, this wine has velvety tannins, a broad, savory mouthfeel, and a very long finish. There is plenty of tannin behind the extravagant fruit, glycerin and texture of this wine, but it is largely concealed. This wine could actually turn out to be even better than my relatively conservative tasting note. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2042.

93 Points Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate 20/02/2012

"Tempting offer from Bordeaux's superb 2009 vintage, notably a black cherry-rich Château Beychevelle…"

Anthony Rose - The Independent Magazine 22/06/2013

Regional info

St Julien - The wines from St Julien are very similar to those from Pauillac, although generally better priced as their reputation is not as high. It is home to the most second growths of any of the left bank communes, and second only to Pauillac in the total number of classed growths.
