Description

Citrus x microcarpa, the Calamondin, is a compact evergreen citrus carrying small, fragrant orange fruits with a sharp, tangy flavour and sweet edible skin. Glossy dark leaves and scented white flowers make it attractive year-round, and mature plants often flower and fruit at the same time. The fruit is excellent in marmalade, cordials and cooking rather than eaten fresh.

Calamondin flowers repeatedly through the year, so fruit at several stages is normal. Grow in full sun in a bright room, conservatory or on a sheltered patio in summer, using a free-draining citrus compost. It is not frost-hardy and must come under cover before the first frosts. Water with rainwater and feed with a specialist citrus feed.
