Description

Musa acuminata 'Tropicana' is a dwarf ornamental banana with lush, broad tropical foliage on a compact pseudostem. Its modest size makes it a practical choice where a full-sized banana would overwhelm, and it is equally at home in a bright room, a conservatory or on a sheltered patio through summer. It is grown for foliage effect rather than for fruit.

Grow in full sun in a sheltered spot, on fertile, moist but well-drained compost. Not frost-hardy in the UK, 'Tropicana' should be kept in a container that can be brought under cover before the first frosts. Water and feed generously through the growing season, and remove damaged leaves to keep the plant looking fresh.
