Description

Rhubarb 'Stockbridge Arrow' is a superb traditional Yorkshire-bred variety, celebrated for its robust, deep red stems and exquisite flavour. As a high-yielding, late-season crop, it's the ideal choice for those aiming to prolong their rhubarb harvest into the early summer months. The long, substantial stalks are incredibly versatile, perfect for creating everything from zesty crumbles and sweet compotes to homemade jams. How to Grow: - Plant in moist but well-drained soil, favouring a sunny position. - Suitable for early forcing, it reliably yields tender stems from April to June. - Established plants will provide generous harvests for many years. - Ultimate height: 60cm (2ft); spread: 1.2m (4ft). - Plant crowns or budded pieces from autumn to spring, spacing them 75cm (30") apart. - Enhance the planting site with well-rotted manure or compost. - Position crowns just below soil level (3cm/1"). - Ensure regular watering during dry spells and apply an annual mulch to retain moisture and deter weeds. - Refrain from harvesting in the first year to allow for proper root establishment. - In subsequent seasons, gently pull stems from the base. Always discard the leaves, as they are toxic if consumed.
