Description

Discover the exceptional 'Musquee de Provence' squash, a heritage French variety celebrated for its substantial size, exquisite flavour, and unique appearance. This pumpkin variety produces impressive, flat, and heavily lobed fruits that can reach an impressive 7–10kg. Its thick, deep orange flesh is wonderfully sweet and fine-textured, making it perfect for a wide range of culinary uses, including roasting, baking, and mashing. As the fruits mature, their skin develops a rich brown hue, adding a rustic charm to autumn harvests and displays. How to Grow: - Sow seeds indoors from April to early June in a propagator or directly into 7.5cm pots with moist compost, keeping them at 20-25°C. Cover seeds with approximately 19mm of compost; germination typically occurs within 5-8 days. - After the risk of frost has passed, transplant seedlings outdoors, ensuring they have at least 90cm of space for their trailing growth. Alternatively, sow seeds directly outdoors from late May, planting two seeds per station and thinning to the strongest seedling. - Expect a growing period of approximately 14 weeks from sowing to harvest. - Maintain consistent watering, ensuring the soil remains moist but well-drained. Feed fortnightly with a balanced liquid fertiliser throughout the growing season. - Regular weeding and monitoring for pests will promote healthy development. - Harvest fruits when they feel firm, display a deep colour, and are fully mature.
