Description

Discover the impressive Squash ‘Jumbo Pink Banana’, a winter variety that promises a spectacular harvest of uniquely coloured and flavourful fruits. These large, pale pink squash boast sweet, orange flesh with a delightful nutty taste, perfect for a variety of culinary uses including roasting, baking, or mashing. How to Grow: - Sow seeds indoors from April in individual 7.5cm (3in) pots on their sides, planting at a depth of 1.5cm (½in). - Maintain a temperature of 20–25°C (68–77°F) until germination, which typically takes 5–7 days. - Grow seedlings in cooler conditions until all risk of frost has passed. - Gradually acclimate plants to outdoor conditions over 7–10 days before planting. - Plant outdoors in a warm location with well-drained, humus-rich soil and full sun. - Water regularly around the base of the plant, ensure good airflow, and keep the area free of weeds. - Feed fortnightly with a high-potassium fertiliser once fruits begin to swell. - Harvest in late summer and autumn before the first frosts, leaving a few inches of stem attached. This highly productive and reliable variety is ideal for gardeners with space for sprawling plants, offering an unusual and rewarding crop that stores well through winter.
