Description

Unwins Organic Courgette Black Beauty Seeds produce attractive, dark green courgettes. This heavy-cropping organic variety produces courgettes that are suitable for a variety of uses. 

Courgette Black Beauty has excellent flavour. Use these for roasting, stuffing or courgetti. 

Sow: Apr to Jun
Harvest: Jun to Oct

Sowing Indoors
Sow seeds individually on edge in small pots of firm, moist seed compost, 2 cm deep. Place in a warm spot (15–18 °C) and keep moist. As seedlings develop, grow on under cool, light conditions, avoiding direct sunlight.

Planting Out
Gradually acclimate young plants to outdoor conditions over 2–3 weeks before planting out to cropping positions, after the risk of frost has passed. Water generously and feed regularly with tomato fertiliser once fruits begin to swell.

Sowing Outdoors
Water sowing positions first, then sow two or three seeds close together in groups, 2 cm deep, spaced 90 cm apart. After germination, leave only the strongest seedling in each group. Water generously and feed regularly with tomato fertiliser.

Caution
Very rarely, courgettes may produce bitter fruits that can cause stomach upset. Test by licking the cut surface of one fruit per plant; do not eat bitter fruits.

Advice
Courgette flowers are edible, either cooked or added raw to salads. Regular harvesting encourages more fruit production.
