Description

Marshalls Garden Rudbeckia ‘Autumn Colours’ produces a stunning mix of golden, copper and orange flowers on long, sturdy stems from early summer into autumn. Grown from seed, they reach about 60cm tall and prefer full sun and well-drained, moderately fertile, moisture-retentive soil. Sow indoors almost fill a seed tray with moist seed compost, sow seeds thinly on the surface and lightly cover, keep at around 20°C and maintain moisture. Keep seedlings in a bright spot sheltered from direct sun; when large enough, transplant 5cm apart into potting compost and harden off for 2–3 weeks before planting out after the risk of frost has passed, spacing plants about 30cm apart. Blooms appear July to September; deadhead spent flowers to encourage more blooms. Flowers are popular with butterflies and other pollinators and make excellent cut flowers, while dried seedheads attract small birds.
