Aberlour 9 Year Old 2009 (Master of Malt) Created for those who appreciate distilled in 2009, this single malt matured for nine years in a lovely, mellow old refill butt, allowing Aberlour's vibrant distillate character to shine, where so often it's smothered in sherry. Inside this awesome little find from Aberlour, bottled by yours truly! Just 72 bottles join our exclusive Master of Malt collection. 72 bottles isn't a lot. There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, this was one seriously leaky cask, it lost a lot of liquid and the ABV dropped significantly during maturation (not a bad thing! Pure Aberlour spirit character + oxygen + time = delightful!). The other reason for such a dramatic loss of contents might have something to do with warehouse hands, distillery workers, and downright greedy master blenders who visit and sample particular favourite casks in the warehouse a little too often. Quality control and all that... With generous layers of creamy vanilla, stone fruits, and apples balancing warming, woody spice, it's a tasty treat that won't hang around for long!
