Seachem Matrix is a premium, high-porosity biomedia designed to provide superior biofiltration for aquariums by efficiently removing ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Ideal for both freshwater and saltwater tanks, Matrix’s porous structure offers both external and internal surface areas for optimal bacteria colonisation. Unlike traditional bio-materials, Matrix supports both nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, allowing it to simultaneously handle nitrate, ammonia, and nitrite within the same filter.

  • High-Capacity Biofiltration: Provides efficient filtration by controlling ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, promoting a balanced aquarium.
  • Extensive Surface Area: Each litre of Matrix provides over 700 m² of surface area, equivalent to the surface of 170 litres of plastic bio-balls.
  • Supports Multiple Bacteria Types: Porous structure supports both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, allowing comprehensive biofiltration.
  • Inert and Long-Lasting: Matrix is fully inert, requiring no replacement and can be rinsed without losing bacterial colonies.
  • Versatile Use: Effective in all types of filters, particularly suitable for canister and drip tray systems.
  • Dosage: Use 250ml of Matrix per 100L (25 US gallons) of water.
  • Placement: Place in any filter type; no filter bag is required for most applications. For drip trays, consider using Pond Matrix, which is larger and may better suit these systems.
  • Compatibility: Use with Seachem Stability® to establish a bio-filter more rapidly.
