The extra ageing gives our whiskeys a richer body and smoother taste profile. The higher proof gives our whiskeys balance and means they stand up stronger in cocktails. From this house style, we produce an award-winning collection of American Whiskeys and we’ve won 'Distiller/y of the Year’ many times over the years. We’re proud of the spirits we’ve crafted in Bourbon Country and grateful the critics agree.Long before the term Small Batch even existed, our Master Distillers were hand selecting a small number of barrels to make Elijah Craig. This expertise and attention to detail give Elijah Craig Small Batch the right balance of full body and rich flavour. Each Small Batch carries a signature warm spice and subtle smoke flavour. A combination that belongs in any Bourbon fan's regular rotation.
Elijah Craig bears the name of the Reverend Elijah Craig who established his distillery in 1789 on the banks of Elkhorn Creek in modern-day Georgetown, Kentucky. He is credited as the first distiller to age his whiskey in new charred oak barrels. Some claim that an accidental fire charred his barrels and changed the whiskey inside. Others say he stored his whiskey in former sugar barrels and was impressed with how charring the inside improved the flavour. However it happened, Elijah Craig knew he had discovered something great. He continued to refine the barrel charring process, imparting smooth, rich flavour to the spirit that would become known as Bourbon. 250 years later, he is still known as the ‘Father of Bourbon’, and we craft our Bourbon today using the same time-honoured methods.
In 1935, shortly after Prohibition ended in the United States, Heaven Hill Brands was founded in Bardstown, Kentucky by the Shapira family. To us, whiskey is more than a profession, it’s a personal passion that we pour into every bottle. We celebrate American Whiskey's rich traditions, guide its evolution and champion its exciting future.
