Beef kofte with spiced tomato sauce recipe

Make a big batch of these fiery beef kofte for your next barbecue bash. Flavoured with an aromatic spice paste and served with a rich tomato sauce, these brilliant beef kebabs are perfect for sharing.

Ingredients
- 750g beef mince
- 2 tbsp kofte paste
- 2 tbsp couscous
- 1 small onion, grated
- 2 garlic cloves, finely grated
- handful mint leaves, finely chopped, plus extra to serve
- handful coriander leaves, finely chopped, plus extra to serve
- flatbreads or pitta, to serve
For the sauce
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
- pinch chilli flakes
- pinch cinnamon
- pinch sugar
- 1 tbsp tomato purée
- 2 x 400g tins chopped tomatoes

Method
- In a large bowl, mix together the beef, kofte paste, couscous, onion, garlic, mint and coriander. Season well and form into 32 walnut-sized balls. Thread 4 kofte balls onto each of the 8 skewers. Leave to chill and firm up in the fridge.
- Meanwhile, make the sauce. Heat the oil in a pan over a medium heat, add the garlic and cook for 30 secs. Add the remaining ingredients and cook for 10 mins, until thickened. Season to taste.
- Heat a barbecue or griddle pan until hot then cook the skewers for 4-5 mins on each side until cooked through. Scatter the kofte balls with the extra herbs and serve with the sauce and flatbread.
