Remove. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
We're serious about packaging and plastic waste. We're taking action to: Remove it where we can. Reduce it where we can't. Reuse more. Recycle what's left.

Remove it where we can.

Reduce it where we can't.

Reuse more.

Recycle what's left.
Our latest achievements
In 2018, we said we'd remove the hardest-to-recycle plastics from our packaging by the end of 2019. We met this target for Tesco own-brand products. Now, we're working with other brands to do the same. Also, in 2019, we set an aim to remove a billion pieces of plastic from our business by the end of 2020. We successfully hit this target and our work goes on to remove plastic wherever possible. We believe unnecessary plastic has no place in our business.
Remove

Brushing up on sustainability
We've removed the cartons from our own-brand toothpastes, saving 55.9 tonnes of cardboard a year

Responsible drinks
We've worked with our suppliers to remove 50 million pieces of plastic from branded beers and ciders*

Same product, less packaging
We're removing the trays from our pre-packed chicken, saving 14.2 million pieces a year
Reduce

A fresh take on frozen

Reuse

A new way of home cleaning
We have launched our own-brand refills for cleaning spray bottles. Shoppers can pick up refill capsules in-store or online and create a simple cleaning solution in old spray bottles by mixing them with tap water. By using a single bottle and topping it up multiple times with our refill capsules, we could help save up to 60 million pieces of plastic a year.
