Vinification Details

As soon as the grapes arrived at the winery, they were gently prepared and placed into stainless steel tanks for fermentation. Fermentation took approximately five days with the fermenting juice circulated to bring out the rich colour, flavour and tannins from the grape skins. The wine was matured without any oak influence, allowing the fresh, vibrant fruit flavours to really shine.

History

The Grão Vasco wines are named after Portuguese Renaissance painter Vasco Fernandes (commonly referred to as ‘Grão Vasco'), who lived and painted in Viseu, the capital of Portugal's Dão wine region. The wine labels feature Grão Vasco's famed portrait of Saint Peter, painted for the Viseu Cathedral in 1529.

Regional Information

Nestled in the mountainous heart of northern Portugal, the Dão region is one of the country's oldest and most prestigious wine areas. Protected by mountains on all sides, it benefits from a unique microclimate. It is mild and dry, with warm summers and cold winters, ideal for slow, even grape ripening. This helps produce wines with elegance, balance, and great ageing potential.
