Their aim is to bring a positive tension between the complexity of the past and the vitality of the new. Vinification Details
After de-stemming the grapes were fermented as whole berries in stainless steel tanks. After primary fermentation the free run wine was transferred to 300l French oak barrels; all of which were 2nd and 3rd fill and left to mature for a further 15 months before bottling.
History
Visio Vintners is the result of a collaboration between Kleine Zalze's owners and the Kleine Zalze Empowerment Trust, the latter owned by the winery's employees working in the vineyards, cellar, maintenance, logistical and marketing departments. The collaboration supports the transfer of skills in wine farming, farm management, winemaking and wine marketing, in order to ensure long-term sustainability.
Regional Information
Visio Vintners cultivates their own grapes on land adjacent to Kleine Zalze Wines. The 20.2 hectares of land is leased from the Stellenbosch Municipality on a long-term basis. Replanting of the vineyards started in 2017 and the last blocks will be replanted in 2022.
