This awful sickly sponge mix is NOT Stollen
Absolutely awful. Sponge cakes soaked in some kind of syrup that bear no resemblance at all to Stollen. Horrible after taste too. Tried one bite and threw the packet away. This is most definitely NOT Stollen. Not sure how they even get away with calling it that.
IMHO not how proper stollen tastes
If you know what Stollen should be like, I would advise not to even think about trying these. If you have never tried (a proper) stollen these will put you off for the rest of your life, so I would advise not to try these. There was some dried fruit and I think there was some marzipan, certainly there was a faint hint of almonds, but taste and texture left a lot to be desired - some of the dried fruit tasted burnt and the bakers forgot to add the yeast or other raising agents to the dough.
Very disppointing, literally no taste to it, bought it for an afternoon treat and felt like I was being punished.....
Anglophiled and ruined version of a stollen slice!
Don't buy these if you love stollen bites! They've been 'Kipling'd'. Someone, instead of using the normally delicious recipe has decided that slicing open a Tudor slice and putting marzipan inside makes a stollen bite; it doesn't. A horribly Anglophiled version of what was once a super festive treat.
