Wickedly Hot - May Suit Some
Bought this for a Saturday evening fun meal-essentially this is a good quality prepared chicken meal, with chicken coated in a breadcrumb style mix with a separate sachet of sauce. The big problem for me was that the coating was wickedly hot and loaded with what I think would be chilli to the extent that it burned my mouth when I tired to eat it and it took a fair time, drinking cold water, to get rid of the sensation. The sachet of sauce when tasted seemed quite mild by comparison. I can imagine this recipe would suit a great many modern families who love curries and chilli because it's pretty hardcore and might be fun for some - however for me it was a non starter because I just couldn't tolerate the chilli, especially at the strength that it appeared to have in the coating. There isn't any particular warning of this on the packaging, so I imagine quite a few people might be caught out by this. It's worth mentioning that the chicken itself looked as if it was first rate and a small amount that I separated from the coating and cleaned up tasted fine - sadly though I must give the recipe 2 stars as whilst some people might love it, for me it had to be a non-starter based on the excess of chilli (or similar substance that gave it that burning sensation..). Summary: A good recipe spoiled by overbearing hot spices - would probably suit a minority who like really hot spicy food but would be better if the hot component could be added to taste. Labelling needs to be better to warn the unwary.
