This sauce is so bad I've just made an account to leave a review. Nothing like massaman, watery than water and less flavour than a sponge. Do not buy this
nothing like Massaman, no taste at all and Tesco only have the full blue dragon set for Massaman and nothing else....
This curry paste is absolutely vile. I made a vegg
This curry paste is absolutely vile. I made a veggie curry with it and had to throw it in the bin. The consistency is gloopy and slimey. The taste is sickening. The smell is so potently aniseed that I had to wash the pot twice, once with kitchen cleaner, change and clean the bin and after a day of putting up with the lingering smell, fully clean the kitchen to get rid of it. Disgusting.
Cheap and watery.
Watery cheap rubbish. Would never buy again.
Hardly any taste. Really disappointing.
Just tastes of fennel or aniseed. Nothing like masaman.
DO NOT BUY
Do not buy! Minging!!!! Far too much citrus! I used to have a Thai Restaurent in Harpenden. They would sometimes use shop bought pastes for really busy times as a back up. None of them tasted as bad as this. Curry in the bin. Awful!
Worse Than Bland - Avoid
Don't bother, awful, not authentic; not even a vague resemblance. I bought a jar two days ago, kept it in a dry cupboard of course, and used it tonight (July 7th 2021). I'm not complaining for the sake of it because I generally appreciate Tesco's low prices and range of goods. However, this Massaman paste is bland to the point of tasteless yet manages to leave a vinegary taste a while later. Very disappointing and a waste of precious beef. I have had other Massaman pastes that work really well, so its not like I'm a newbie at using this type of product. Tesco please reformulate this. It has had terrible reviews yet you still set it. If you have cut corners to make a cheap product like you have with your Tesco Gluten Free Sausages (awful texture and taste), its not worth it as people will find out that it is rubbish and not buy it in the long run.
Just tastes of aniseed and vinegar. I had to use
Just tastes of aniseed and vinegar. I had to use fish sauce, lime juice, ginger, garlic and a whole raft of other stuff to make it edible. I bought it to save some time and to just try it out but, I should have made my own paste really, it tastes far better and is worth the extra effort. Won't be buying it in a jar again.
This does not taste anything like Massaman Curry, all I could taste was aniseed, very unpleasant.
