Regional Information

For Grand Conseiller Pinot Noir, we have selected the very best "terroirs" in France, from which to source Pinot Noir grapes of outstanding quality, value and authenticity. These sources come from Jura, Loire and parts of the Languedoc. Owing to our Burgundian roots, a portion of Bourgogne Pinot Noir wine can also be found in this wine (between 5-10% of the total blend), bringing even more character, complexity and flavour.

Vinification Details

The grapes are completely destemmed and then placed in stainless steel vats. A pre-fermentation maceration period of around 5 days is followed by the alcoholic fermentation which lasts 18 to 25 days. The pigments, tannins and aromas are gently extracted by both punching down and pumping over. The wine is then aged for a short time, mainly in stainless steel vats, but around 30% is transferred to oak barrels to round out the tannins and add complexity to the wine.

History

This wine pays tribute to Paul Bouchard (1814-1898), the 5th. generation of the Bouchard family. Known as the Grand Conseiller (General Councillor), Paul was a politician and a visionary, who played a major role in the enhancement of Burgundian wines. Since 1750, Bouchard Aîné & Fils, based in Beaune in the heart of Burgundy, has been producing some of the best examples of Pinot Noir in the world. Grand Conseiller is the result of these centuries of savoir-faire.
