Delicious with vinegar and pepper
I used to buy Tesco cooked mussels regularly. They were described as "Rope grown in Scotland". Then supplies seemed to come to a halt around the start of the pandemic. I always kept my eye on the freezer cabinet, and spotted them the other week, but in fish counter freezer, they were in the frozen foods aisle. The pack says that they are "Farmed in the pristine waters of the South East Pacific". Country of origin is Chile. I have enjoyed two packs so far and can find no faults. Unlike some others, I have found no shell fragments or sand. There is no mention of rope grown, but the lack of sand grains suggests that they are. The mussels are succulent and ready to eat with a sprinkling of vinegar a bit of pepper.
Not the same as fresh, of course, but still very good. The trick is to cook them for very little time (!) - so they do not shrink.
This would be a very good product if there wasn't
This would be a very good product if there wasn't so much broken shell in it. Large, often very sharp pieces, can be removed by carefully examining each mussel after thawing but there always small pieces that get inside the mussels.
Just awesome , cannot get enough of these mussels and great value too.
good size and tast
good quality convenient tasty sometimes you can bite on a bit of shell
Plump with a good flavour
Brought these to go in a paella, cracked my tooth
Brought these to go in a paella, cracked my tooth on a piece of shell left attached to the mussel. Would not recommend these. If you do buy them make sure you inspect them very carefully as when I looked at the rest there was more broken shell's attatched to the mussels, next stop visit to the dentist
