  • Malbec, Merlot and Mourvèdre - Red South African Wine
  • Malbec, Merlot and Mourvèdre grapes naturally fermented separately in open barrels liberating individual traits and origin and variety.
  • Blended before maturation in big French oak barrels respecting natural varietal character. Only 10 barrels produced this vintage.
  • Every so often, small parcels of extraordinary grapes capture the soul of their unique vineyard origins and transcend the mere science of routine winemaking practice deserving exciting exploration and experimentation in our cellar. This multi-faceted wine is an original composition of Malbec, Merlot and Mourvèdre seldom found together as a blend, but a fascinating enigma rising from the gutsy artistry of our winemaker. Sumptuous yet svelte with a core of intense blackcurrants and soft pastille cherry fruit, savoury earthy edges and all spice intrigue cradle by well tethered gentle oak all in perfect unity on an overtly fruity and fresh finish.
  • In his time, Bernard Podlashuk was well known in the Cape winelands as a real maverick winemaker. Never quite satisfied to be just ordinary, he is still recognised for his daring vision, sheer audacity and pioneering drive that helped place South African wine on the map. His tenacity and innovative flair lives on through The Bernard Series, Bellingham's premium range of extraordinary wines.

Mine was a Dud

Review from tesco.com

At this price, and looking at the other reviewers, I was expecting something good. WelI, I got a different drink altogether. Rough and harsh, good only for cooking with. The sort of thing you drank when a student for £2.99. I presume I was unlucky, but I'm glad I didn't embarass myself by serving this to guests.

I was served this at a Mess Dinner, scanned the bar code and here we are. Lovely Wine, I save it for friends and self indulgence

Rich and delicious

Review from tesco.com

This wine has masses of sweet berry fruit on the nose and in the mouth, backed up by enough tannin to hold it all together. It really fills the mouth and the flavour lingers for ages on afterwards. The density makes it feel as if it was even more than the 14 percent alcohol on the label. If you are a fan of big, new world wines, this is one to try. For me, it is delicious but misses any real sense of local identity, and is maybe too heavy for everyday drinking, so I'd have given it just four and a half stars, if that was allowed.

Excellent wine, full of flavour.

Picked this up in store. Wonderfully fruity aroma. Flavour was great from the first sip but improved when it had time to breathe. Lovely berry taste, very well rounded and full of depth. Will definitely be buying again and recommending to friends. At £13 it's not a cheap wine, but I don't think anyone could be disappointed with it.
