I'm Expecting it to be Excellent!
Whoa there! Family kindly sent so much wine ahead of their arrival we have not even uncorked this one yet. They are super lovely people! It will be as expected I'm sure. Ask me again in a couple of weeks so that I can let you know if I need to knock a star or two off.
Good all rounder
I have purchased this wine on a number of occasions and always enjoy the same good quality. Even better when it's on offer. It is suitable for quaffing just on its own when you can relax and enjoy.
A Quaffable Party WIne
Well, this was a surprise! A most understated Chardonnay, not what I was expecting at all. I usually associate Australian wines with flavours which are sometimes too intense, but this was pleasantly restrained. In the glass the Chardonnay was a very pale straw colour with a, just discernable, nose of lemon zest and pear. I prefer unoaked Chardonnay and so, on tasting, was delighted to find that this was dry with little obvious oak. Crisp and refreshing, it is a good, quaffable party wine. Served chilled it would be ideal with or without food.
Great discovery
First the admission, that I am normally an ABC, but this won me over by not meeting my expectations. From first to last mouthful this delivered bouquet and flavour. The bouquet was flowery with overtones of vanilla. The mouth feel was full and rounded, but refreshing. It had buttery flavours, without detectable oak, just a light touch to enhance the flavour. The aftertaste is dry. This was drunk with a Tesco fish pie, and was a perfect match. I shall buy both the fish pie and the wine again, and again, and again.
Delicious to drink
Some Australian Chardonnays can be quite heavy and oaked. But not this one. Whilst still retaining some creaminess, this Chardonnay is clean and crisp with lovely pure citrus fruit, with hints of woodspice, and absolutely delicious to drink, a classic combination of both French & Australian Chardonnay styles. This makes the wine not only enjoyable, but distinctive & different and very interesting. A lovely fantastic clear pale gold colour, with aromas of candied apples & pears with very faint hints of butter and oak. A light, crisp and slightly creamy texture led to very enjoyable fresh fruit flavours of lemon, white peach and nectarine, with a extremely pleasant long lingering clean fruit and woodspice finish. Very very pleasant indeed. Another winning wine from Mr William Hardy - it not only looks very good, it is also a pure pleasure to drink.
A classy Chardonnay
Although I’m easily won over with Chardonnay, it seems to suffer-unfairly- from an image problem which elicits sympathetic sighs from dinner party hosts when guests arrive with bottles furtively wrapped and slid across the table with a mumbled apology. No more, for this bottle would grace the smartest of tables with pride. Firstly, William Hardy Chardonnay sports a classical embossed label which declares the provenance and quality of the wine. Once poured, the wine delivers a crisp, lemony finish which is packed with flavours of white peach and vanilla topnotes. The trademark oaky quality of Chardonnay is less pronounced here, but with a more subtle, muted depth, it is a perfect summer wine, ideally suited for a fish supper on a gloriously sunny evening, or matched with chicken at a barbeque. However, don’t wait until the weather turns-grab a case now whilst the price is right!
A very nice wine especially with lighter dishes.
Fresh tasting and aromatic. Good with white fish and chicken dishes. Nice change from Sauvignon Blancs
Aussie Chardonnay
Probably one of the best Aussie Chardonnay I have had. Although I bought at a discounted bulk price, it's still good value at the RRP of £8.99.
