Tasting Notes

The 2011 Steingarten Riesling is a cool vintage classic.

It has a beautiful, intense aroma of citrus blossom, apple and lemon; When young, it is packed with refreshing lemon/lime flavours and has an underlying minerality; With age, it acquires a richer, more honeyed character.

It is perfect with Thai dishes or seafood

An original pioneer of winemaking in South Australia, Johann Gramp planted his first vineyard on the banks of Jacob’s Creek in 1847. 160 years later, Jacob's Creek is one of the best known Australian wines, trusted and enjoyed around the world. The Steingarten Riesling is the flagship white wine of the Jacob's Creek range. Today, the wine is made by Bernard Hickin. Originally, the idea of becoming a winemaker never even occured to Bernard. However, a visit to a friend at a winery turned out to be a life-changing moment for him: "I remember the aroma . . . and the vibrant purple colour of the red [grapes]. It was just like being in another world!"

Regional info

Jacob's Creek Steingarten Riesling is made from a small number of select vineyards high in the Barossa Ranges. It takes its name from the unique soil on which it's grown: Steingarten means 'Stone Garden'. The higher altitude means the region has a naturally cooler climate and this helps to give the wine a characteristically crisp, aromatic style.
