Regional Information

Alsace is, above all, about varietal wines that show the purest expression of the grape. Turckheim is one of the most beautiful towns in Alsace, and while it is blessed with unique terroir and wonderful sunshine on its slopes, it is also famous for its remarkable historical and architectural heritage. The geological richness of this region in Alsace also provides Turckheim with a foundation for crafting a wide range of wines that are reflective of the grapes and soils they're grown on.

Vinification Details

Crémant d'Alsace is produced using the same traditional method as Champagne. There is a strict selection of grapes, which are hand picked during harvest, and then a second fermentation occurs in bottle. The wine spends 12 to 18 months ageing on lees to develop further flavour and complexity.

History

Widely regarded as one of the world's best co-operatives, Cave de Turckheim was founded in 1955 and recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. Sitting on the fault line between the Alsace plain and the Munster Valley, it works with 120 growers—its only grape source—whose vineyards span Alsace's full range of terroirs and varieties. Sun-kissed slopes, a Grand Cru, and several outstanding lieux-dits (literally "named places," often exceptional single vineyards) have built Turckheim's reputation for decades.
