Grilled custard toast

This is our version of the TikTok-famous custard toast, great for a sweet breakfast or mid-afternoon snack. Will you go for the raspberry crème brûlée topping, or are you more of a spiced plum fan?

Ingredients

  • 4 slices Tesco White Farmhouse Bread
  • ½ 400g can Tesco Ready to Serve Custard
  • 1 medium egg
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon​

For the raspberry crème brûlée topping

  • 150g raspberries
  • 1 ½ tbsp golden caster sugar

For the spiced plum topping

  • 2 plums, halved, de-stoned and finely sliced
  • ¼ tsp mixed spice
  • 2 tsp golden caster sugar

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to gas 6/200°C/180°C fan. Lay the slices of bread out onto a baking sheet and use the back of a spoon to indent the bread to make a well. Mix together the custard and cinnamon and divide between the slices of bread.
  2. For the toppings, to make the Raspberry crème brûlée, divide the raspberries between the bread slices and sprinkle over the sugar. For the Spiced plum, lay the slices of plum over the custard, combine the mixed spice and caster sugar and sprinkle over the plums. Bake both toppings for 10-12 mins, until crisp and golden but softly set in the centre. Cut into halves and enjoy.
