Freeing up slots

There’s still high demand for our online service, so we’d encourage you to shop in-store if you’re able to do so, where we have a number of safety measures in place.

To help more people shop in-store at times that are quieter or more convenient, we've extended the opening hours in many of our shops, although the majority remain closed overnight. To find the latest opening hours for your local store, please visit our store locator.

We’ve more than doubled the number of online slots to 1.5 million each week. This is to help anyone who’s unable to shop in‐store – especially our most vulnerable customers – so they can access our online service. Last week, we delivered more orders than ever before, and we’ll continue to increase the number of online slots available.

Helping the most vulnerable get food deliveries.

For those who are self-isolating

Our deliveries are continuing, and we’ll deliver to customers in self-isolation. You can let us know that you’re in self-isolation when you order (using the delivery notes box) or let the driver know at the door so that they can deliver safely.

We’re no longer packing your shopping in carrier bags. If you’d like us to use tray liners, just select that option when you check out. A tray liner fits around the inside of the tray and has your groceries inside. In line with government guidelines, we’re charging 40p for tray liners.

Our drivers have also been told how to check a customer’s age during these circumstances. For example, they may ask you to verify your age by showing them proof of identification, where possible, either from a distance or through a window/glass.

Drivers may have to remove any age-restricted products from your order and return them to store for a refund if they can’t verify your age or where local restrictions prevent the delivery of alcohol.

We’re continuing to encourage customers to buy only what they need, to help make sure there’s enough for everyone.

We have good stock levels, so please shop as you normally would so that everyone is able to get what they need. We may apply buying limits to some essential products to help with that too.

Changes to in-store shopping

Find out about how we're keeping our customers and colleagues safe, as well as giving vulnerable customers and NHS workers time to get their essentials.

Shopping safely in-store

We’re continuing to do all we can to ensure that everyone can get the food they need in a safe environment.

We have installed a simple ’traffic light’ system in some of our larger stores to help us manage the flow in and out. Once in-store, please keep to the social distancing markings. If there’s a queue outside and it’s raining, we’ll be handing out sanitised umbrellas in our larger stores.

Hand sanitiser and cleaning stations are available around our stores, and we continue to have social distancing guidelines and signage in place. There are screens at the checkouts to keep everyone safe, and we encourage you to use contactless payment where you can.

When you visit our stores, please follow the legal guidance on wearing a face covering. If you forget to bring one, we have packs available to buy at the front of our stores, which you can open immediately and pay for with your shopping later. As a reminder, the police can issue fines for not wearing a face covering, unless you’re exempt.

Priority hours

We’re continuing our dedicated hours for vulnerable customers. Please check our store locator for your local store’s hours.

Some of our stores open an hour early on Sundays, at 9am. This first hour is just for browsing, so you’ll only be able to check out your shopping from 10am.

As the NHS continue to work hard each day, we’d like to extend the thank you for all they are doing.

We’re giving NHS, emergency service, and care workers priority entry to our stores to help them shop when they have the time. If there’s a queue at the front of the store, please come to the front with your valid ID to enter.

We've been a long-term partner of the British Red Cross, providing ongoing practical support when local communities need it the most.

Most recently, we’ve helped fund a free and confidential coronavirus support line, set up by the British Red Cross. Call 0808 196 3651 to chat to a friendly British Red Cross volunteer. The lines are open daily from 10am to 6pm.
