Description

Enjoy a colourful mix of gooseberries with this Marshalls Garden collection. You receive three bare-root, two-year-old bushes—Hinnonmaki (sweet yellow), Invicta (tart and full-bodied) and Hinnonmaki Red (large and refreshing)—each supplied on a sturdy leg with two strong branches and ready-trained to form healthy fruiting frameworks. Plants establish quickly and generally begin fruiting in the second year, producing about 2–2.5kg (5–6 lbs) per bush and supplying fruit for at least 10 years. Plant in a sunny or partially shaded site with fertile, well-drained soil; soak bare roots for an hour before planting, set the crown level with the soil, water thoroughly and mulch. Space bushes about 1.5–1.8m (5–6ft) apart, or allow 1.2m (4ft) between rows for multiple collections. Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring, prune annually in late winter, water during dry spells and store bare roots in a cool, moist place until planting.
