Description

Unwins Sweet Pea Seeds 'Platinum Jubilee' is a Spencer-type variety producing abundance of pale blue-striped blooms on a white ground with a delicate citrus-tinged fragrance. Plants flower from May to August and reach about 1.8m, making them excellent for borders, containers, and cut flowers. Sow seeds in pots of quality seed compost in October–November or January–April, pre-soaking or nicking tough seed coats to aid germination, then transplant to a sunny, sheltered, well-drained spot enriched with compost. Space plants about 25cm (10 inches) apart, provide canes or a wigwam for support, pinch shoots at 10cm to encourage bushy growth, water during dry periods, and feed with a potassium-rich liquid fertiliser to boost blooms. Dead-head regularly to prolong flowering; suitable for moist but well-draining, fertile soil in full sun.

Product Care InstructionsSow seeds in pots filled with quality seed compost during October–November or late January–April. To aid germination, soften seeds by placing them on a damp towel or in vermiculite until they swell. Tough seeds can be lightly nicked opposite the ‘eye’ to let moisture in. Place pots in a warm greenhouse, conservatory, or cold frame, keeping soil moist but not waterlogged. Harden off Professional Grower Plugs before transplanting to a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil enriched with compost or manure. Plant around 10 inches (25cm) apart, securing each to canes or a wigwam. Regular watering during dry periods supports healthy growth and abundant blooms. Encourage strong, bushy plants by pinching out the top of main shoots when around 4 inches (10cm) tall. Feed with a potassium-rich liquid fertiliser to boost flowers and tie plants gently to supports as they grow. Dead-head faded flowers throughout the season to prolong flowering and maintain plant health.
