Description

Unwins Sweet Pea Seeds 'Erewhon' produce elegant lavender and mauve bicolour blooms with a delightful fragrance. This semi-grandiflora variety develops long stems up to 1.8m, making it ideal for borders, containers, trellises, and cutting for indoor displays. Blooms appear from May to August and perform best in full sun in moist, well-draining, fertile soil enriched with organic matter. Sow seeds in pots filled with quality seed compost in October–November or late January–April; soften or nick tough seeds to aid germination and keep soil moist in a warm greenhouse, cold frame, or conservatory. Harden off plugs before transplanting about 10 inches (25 cm) apart and secure plants to canes or a wigwam. Pinch young shoots at around 4 inches (10 cm) to encourage bushy growth, water during dry periods, feed with a potassium-rich liquid fertiliser to boost flowering, and dead-head to extend the season. A fragrant, low-maintenance choice for summer garden displays and cut flowers.

Product Care InstructionsSow seeds in pots filled with quality seed compost during October–November or late January–April. To aid germination, soften seeds by placing them on a damp towel or in vermiculite until they swell. Tough seeds can be lightly nicked opposite the ‘eye’ to let moisture in. Place pots in a warm greenhouse, conservatory, or cold frame, keeping soil moist but not waterlogged. Harden off Professional Grower Plugs before transplanting to a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil enriched with compost or manure. Plant around 10 inches (25cm) apart, securing each to canes or a wigwam. Regular watering during dry periods supports healthy growth and abundant blooms. Encourage strong, bushy plants by pinching out the top of main shoots when around 4 inches (10cm) tall. Feed with a potassium-rich liquid fertiliser to boost flowers and tie plants gently to supports as they grow.
