Highlights

  • Distinct liquorice-flavoured Thai basil, perfect for authentic Thai and oriental dishes and best added to food at the last minute for maximum aroma.
  • Easy-to-grow seeds for pots or garden: sow indoors Jan–Dec 0.5cm deep, keep at 15–20°C until germination, or sow outdoors Mar–May and thin to 20cm apart.
  • Attractive purple flowers draw pollinators; pinch off young flowerbuds when growing for culinary use to prevent bitterness and extend the harvest.

Description

Marshalls Garden Thai Basil seeds produce an unusual basil variety with a distinctive liquorice flavour, ideal for Thai and oriental cooking and excellent in pots or on a sunny windowsill. Plants reach around 60cm and bear attractive purple flowerspires that attract pollinating insects. Sow indoors January–December: sow 0.5cm (1/4in) deep in individual small pots of compost, water well and keep at 15–20°C (60–68°F) until germination, then grow on in cooler conditions. Sow outdoors March–May: sow direct 0.5cm (1/4in) deep into pre-watered soil and thin to 20cm (8in) apart. Plant out April–May, spacing plants 20cm (8in) apart. For a continuous supply sow every 2–3 weeks. For best flavour pick leaves as needed and add to dishes at the last minute; remove flowers to prolong harvest and avoid bitterness when used culinarily. Soil: well-drained, fertile. Sunlight: full sun. What's included: Thai Basil seeds.
