Description

Courgette 'Ladoga' from Marshalls Garden is an early-cropping, vigorous variety that yields top-quality long green courgettes all summer. Plants have an upright, open habit that makes harvesting simple and suit pots, patios, small gardens, borders and raised beds. Sow indoors March–May: sow 1 cm (½ in) deep in individual module trays of firm pre-watered compost at 21°C (70°F) and keep compost moist. Sow outdoors April–May: sow 1 cm (½ in) deep in the final position and keep moist. Harden off and plant out in May when frost risk has passed, spacing plants about 90 cm (36 in) apart. Pick regularly when fruits reach about 10 cm (4 in), water consistently and feed with a liquid fertiliser once fruits start to swell. Warning: very rarely courgettes can be bitter and cause stomach upset; test the cut surface of one fruit per plant and do not eat any that taste bitter.
