Description

Crowns arrive carefully packaged and ready to plant; if you can’t plant immediately, store in a cool place and keep the roots moist. Marshalls Garden ‘Victoria’ is an early, high-yield culinary rhubarb producing green stems with pink tinges and tender, less stringy flesh with a balanced sweet-tart flavour, ideal for pies, crumbles and preserves. Harvestable through winter until Easter. Grows best in full or partial sun in well-drained, fertile soil and is suitable for pots, small gardens, raised beds and vegetable plots. Plant crowns with the growing point just visible and space 75-90cm apart; in containers start in a large pot of compost for about a month before planting out. Water well after planting, avoid waterlogging, feed with a general-purpose fertiliser in summer and water during dry periods. Do not harvest in the first year; in the second year take only a few stems and stop harvesting by July to allow the plant to build reserves.
