Description

Marshalls Garden Pumpkin ‘Fireball’ is a productive variety with vivid orange-and-yellow striped fruits that stand out in the vegetable patch. Pack contains 5 seeds. Sow outdoors from May once the last frosts have passed or start indoors earlier; choose a sunny, sheltered spot with fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or manure. Sow 2–3 seeds per hole at 2.5 cm depth then thin to the strongest seedling, allowing about 100 cm between plants and rows. Feed established plants every 10–14 days with a high-potash fertiliser to support fruit development. Harvest when stems turn dry and corky; cut fruits and cure in the sun or on a windowsill for 10–14 days to harden skins for storage. Uses include roasting, soups, pies and carving; companion plants include sweetcorn and beans.
