Kilchoman - The 100% Islay - Feis Ile 2017 Release Islay Single Malt Scotch 8 year old Whisky A cask strength limited edition release for the 2017 Feis Ile of just 877 bottles of the 100% Islay Barley bottling that has seen 7 editions so far. This is the oldest release yet of the 100% Islay Barley at 8 years old and made up of just two casks, one Ex-bourbon Barrel and a Oloroso Sherry Butt from 2008/2009. Natural Colour, non-chill filtered and natural cask strength. Nose: Salted toffee, smoked honeycomb, heather honey, toasted spices (especially clove) smoked ham, dried fruit chutney, peppery stir fry marinaded shellfish, damp leather and raisin. Palate: Dark treacle toffee, fruit and nut chocolate and then a thick wave of smoked heathery infused peat smoke, some earthy and savoury meat notes to balance the sweetness, an almost rootsy/mushroom note here too. Some late spices (cinnamon sticks and clove) Finish: Smoked rum and raisin fudge, sweet paprika, peppercorns, more fruit and nut chocolate, aromatic peat. Thick and treacly long finish. A mouthfilling Kilchoman that is very different to the lighter/Bourbon cask influenced 100% Islay releases, the oloroso cask is the ace in the pack here imparting some thicker and richer dried fruit flavours along with some superbly balanced peat smoke. Kilchoman continue to go from strength to strength and this release is one of the best yet. Think 25: Please be prepared to show ID when receiving alcohol deliveries.
