Bowmore - Feis Ile 2018 Islay Single Malt Scotch 15 year old Whisky A 15 year old exclusively matured in first fill Oloroso Sherry casks and bottled as a distillery exclusive for the Feis Ile of 2018.Nose: Rich, sweet Sherry with plenty of spice - cloves, cracked black pepper - but a delicious fruitiness in the form of blood oranges, prunes and fig jam. A silky milk chocolate and burnt biscuit note sits right in the centre, reminiscent of millionaire's shortbread with a dark, crumbly base.Palate: Silky, sweet and not as spicy as the abv would suggest. Those Sherried notes amplify across the mid-palate - jammy dark fruits, chocolate buttons - ascending into the spices towards the back - pepper, cloves. There's a tannic grip that stops the sweetness spilling over into sicklinessFinish: and then a dry, quite bitter finish, which is disappointingly short.Conclusion A vatting of five first-fill oloroso puncheons, which delivers in flavour, but where's the smoke?90/100 on Scotchwhisky.com
