Teaninich - 2017 Special Release Single Malt Scotch 1999 17 year old Whisky The first ever release of Teaninich in the annual Diageo special releases series. Also a special limited release for this well respected coastal north highland distilleries 200th anniversary. Aged for 17 years in refill American oak hosheads and Bourbon barrels from a 1999 distillation. Bottled at natural cask strength of 55.9% ABV On the surface straightforward and zesty, it combines grassy and citrus notes to great effect, while below a rich and also light sweetness provides a welcome introduction to its true complexity. Nose: Quite floral and fragrant to begin then a leafy, salted citrus note reveals itself along with exotic fruit, think lychee, galia melon and quince. Earthy and waxy nuances here as well with a late suggestion of almond milk,cinnamon and perfumed candles. Palate: Combines a waxy kumquot and quince element with an earthy sweetness (think porridge oats & honey) A leafy lemon balm and salted almond with green tea and cookie dough note. Finish: Spicy wine gums, peppery oak and more earthy oatmeal and waxy orchard fruits. Easily enjoyable as an aperitif or with oriental cuisines, this Teaninich also rewards more subtle exploration. Think 25: Please be prepared to show ID when receiving alcohol deliveries.
