Ylang ylang essential oil is extracted from the flowers of the Cananga tree. The scent has been described as sweet, musky and floral. Ylang ylang has developed a central role in the perfume industry, being used in all manner of fragrances around the world. It is even sometimes known as the perfume tree. Indeed, even the botanical name of the plant hints at its incredible aroma Cananga odorata._x000D_Cananga odorata is native to much of Southeast Asia, growing naturally in areas such as Malaysia and Indonesia, and across to the tropical parts of Australia. The name ylang ylang is derived from the Indonesian word for “wilderness” which helps to explain how it naturally grows._x000D_Despite the huge area of which it grows there is one part of the world that has really cornered the ylang ylang market. That area is the Comoros, off the eastern coast of Africa._x000D_It has been estimated that over 80% of the ylang ylang produced worldwide comes from the Comoros islands. The climate here is ideal for ylang ylang production, with mild, tropical weather and very little in the way of cyclones that can plague other nearby areas._x000D_Unsurprisingly our ylang ylang is also sourced from the Comoros.
