Description

Red WineCertified SustainabilityThis smooth, rich red is a blend of 70% Malbec, 20% cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The grapes are selected from our vineyards high in the Uco Valley, where the high altitude, warm days and cool nights give wonderful elegance and complexity to the wine. It has a wonderful nose of red and black berries well integrated with fresh herbal notes. The palate is rich, with ripe tannins and a long aftertaste.
In the early 1990s, Bordeaux winemaker Hervé J. Fabre and his wife Diane moved to Argentina, recognizing the potential of Malbec. They purchased some of the country’s oldest Malbec vineyards (planted in 1908) and founded Bodegas Fabre in Luján de Cuyo. Today, the winery has vineyards in both Mendoza and Patagonia. At the heart of Viñalba is the partnership between Diane and Hervé Fabre. Their collaboration is what breathes life into the brand and sets it apart. As pioneers of Argentinian wine, they are the central figures in Viñalba’s story—its true heroes— and the narrative centres on their remarkable journey.

Vinification Details

Deleafing and green picking is performed in December. Meticulous sorting is performed by hand prior to vinification in order to select the best grapes. The wine then undergoes Cold maceration at 10ºC during 5 days before fermentation. Fermentation is at a controlled temperature of 26°C - 28°C. Four pump overs per day and a long maceration period of 20 - 25 days. This wine is then aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.

History

In 1992, Herve J. Fabre became the first winemaker to produce a premium single varietal Malbec in Argentina. After identifying a number of different vineyard sites in the Valle de Uco which offered perfect conditions for Malbec and other varieties, Hervé & Diane launched Viñalba in 2007 producing wines which are the most faithful expression of these terroirs.
