Regional Information

The Moselle region is a well-known wine-growing area in Germany, famous for its steep vineyards and excellent Riesling wines. With a long history dating back to Roman times, the region mainly produces fruity and aromatic white wines that are prized internationally.

Vinification Details

Today, the winemaking process is supported by modern technology to improve the quality of the wine. Grapes are often harvested by hand and gently pressed to extract the best aromas. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled tanks or wooden barrels. Modern machines and computerized systems monitor the process, but the winemaker's craftsmanship remains crucial to the quality of the wine.

History

Weinkellerei Peter Mertes KG in Bernkastel-Kues was founded in 1924 and has developed into one of the largest wine exporters in Germany. The company started out as a family business and is particularly well known for its Riesling wines. With innovative production methods and modern cultivation techniques, Peter Mertes has expanded its portfolio and successfully established itself on international markets.
