Vinification Details

Each variety was vinified separately, destemmed and crushed. Temperature controlled alcoholic fermentation in a combination of stainless steel vats, concrete tanks and small marble basins. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks is followed by 12 months ageing in American (60%) and French (40%) oak barrels. After bottling, the wine is further aged 8 months in the bottle.

History

Founded in 1973 by José Roquette and Joaquim Bandeira, Esporão's mission is to make the finest wines in a responsible and inspiring way. One of the leading wine companies in Portugal and one of the largest organic wine producers in the world, Esporão has become an ambassador of Portuguese culture, developing its activities in a sustainable manner, whilst building close relationships with clients and consumers all over the world.

Regional Information

Launched in 1992, its name comes from the hill next to the Caridade reservoir, at Herdade do Esporão in Alentejo. The grape varieties and vinification techniques follow the region's tradition and show its true character: rich aromas, smooth palate and excellent gastronomic bent. The grapes are supplied by different partners sharing sustainable practices which are crucial to soil quality and fertility, naturally protect the vineyard and influence the quality of the wines.
