Vinification Details

Fruit was sourced from a selection of premium vineyards located in the Dillons Point sub-region of the lower Wairau Valley, at the mouth of the Wairau River. These vineyards are planted on floodplains, rich in nutrients, producing wines with heightened expression. Each vineyard block was harvested at optimum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness. Grapes were transported to the winery quickly and pressed off immediately to minimise skin contact. The juice is then fermented with yeast at a cool temp.

History

Saint Clair Family Estate is owned by Neal and Judy Ibbotson. Grapes were originally supplied to local wine companies; however, a desire to extend the quality achieved in the vineyard through to the finished wine led to the establishment of Saint Clair Family Estate in 1994. The company's mission is to create world-class wines that exceed their customers' every expectation. From 1994 when wines from the first vintage all won medals including gold, the name Saint Clair has maintained records till this day.

Regional Information

A wide choice in Marlborough Vineyard sites, including the Wairau, Awatere and Ure Valleys as well as a vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels wine growing district in Hawke's Bay, allows Saint Clair to specialise its plantings by grape variety in the sub-regions that provide the most suitable terroir for each.
