Description

The Long Road Viognier 75cl This cool-climate Viognier has been lovingly crafted by Samantha O'Keefe, the proprietor and winemaker of Lismore. It exemplifies the fresh, complex and textured wines that come from South Africa's Cape South Coast Region.
I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.Robert Frost

Vinification Details

The grapes were handpicked into 20kg picking crates, and then gently whole bunch pressed with a slow extraction of 650l per ton. The juice was cold settled over night and were then racked into neutral 300L and 500L barrels as well as a 2500L Foudre for natural fermentation to occur. The wine was kept on the lees for 11months before bottling.

History

The name "The Long Road" holds deep significance, stemming from a brainstorming session in 2006 when Samantha and her friends envisioned the brand's journey. It symbolizes the extensive journey from California to the southern tip of Africa, the dedication involved in transforming newly planted vines into exceptional wines, and the meticulous process from harvest to bottling.

Regional Information

Her passion combined with vines planted at 300 meters, chilled by the winter snow and nourished by the African summer sun, produce classic cool climate wines which are rich, complex and lovingly hand crafted. With one of the coolest climates in South Africa with extreme diurnal temperature shifts, her wines present us with a very distinct sense of place
