The Swartland vineyards are renowned for slate and granitic soils, creating tension and vibrancy in the wine.

Vinification Details

The long drought in the Cape has made correct picking dates crucial. With yields being even lower than usual, the quality was exceptional with very concentrated berries. Syrah remains our backbone with Grenache Noir lending a delicate fruitiness and finesse, Cinsault giving floral and ripe strawberry notes and Cabernet Sauvignon contributing good tannic grip and structure in the blend. The wine matures in French oak barriques as well as 2 500L French oak foudres for 12 months.

History

The quest to understand the name of this wine is the stuff of legend. While we are not about to reveal all, we can say that the style of the wine is a reflection of our belief that the Cape is eminently suited to blended reds. The make-up of this wine is tweaked from vintage to vintage to best reflect the season and the ancient vines of great character that are an integral part of the wine's charm and personality.
