Penfolds established 1844In 1844 Dr Christopher Penfold set up in practice at Magill, South Australia.Planting vines around his cottage which he called 'The Grange Cottage', Dr Christopher Penfold began Penfolds' long history of making fine Tawny wines. By Federation in 1901, Penfolds had become one of the largest producers of fortified wines in Australia. Dr Penfold understood the uniqueness of fortified wines, the complex winemaking process and the patience required, as some fortified wines only reach their full potential after many years in the cellar. Allowing wines to age to reach their full potential is a tradition that continues at Penfolds cellars today. Crafting the finest Tawny, not only for now, but for future generations to enjoy.

Each blend of Penfolds Father Grand Tawny is crafted utilising many vintages and varieties, capturing the best attributes of each to ensure a consistent and complex wine. This ensures the individual vintage nuances are combined to create a consistent Tawny year after year. Individual varietal components from each vintage allocation are aged separately in seasoned old oak casks, specifically selected for this wine to ensure the development and characters are consistent and true to the house and Tawny style
History
With compelling quality and provenance, Penfolds Father Grand Tawny is a tribute to over 170
years of Penfolds winemaking excellence. A blend of outstanding wines matured in seasoned small
oak casks, achieving a minimum average blended age of ten years. The combination of extended
maturation and Penfolds extensive experience in crafting fine Tawny wines, has resulted in a wine
with concentration, vitality, exceptional balance of fruit, nutty oak age complexity and distinctive
spirit.
Regional Information
Penfolds vineyards are located primarily in South Australia on prime land throughout the state's most esteemed viticultural regions. Throughout its history, Penfolds has owned and leased vineyards in addition to sourcing grapes from independent growers. This strategy reflects the tradition of multi-vineyard and multi-regional sourcing and allows for a consistency of style and quality across vintages, of which Penfolds is renowned for.
